When is the right time to teach your children about money?  Possibly as soon as they see you spending it!

Experts agree that the benefits of teaching your children early about money are immediate. They will soon begin to understand that they can not always have what they want, and also start to make smart purchasing decisions.

Here are some tips to follow when you talk to your children about money.

  • Kids are different so you may have to explain to each child differently
  • Decide as a family if or what to give allowances for. This will help your children understand the concept of earning money
  •  Teach them savings in a fun way. A novelty piggy bank is always a good starting point
  • Encourage them to find other ways to 'grow' their money
  • Open a bank account for them. some banks send them gifts which encourage them to save money
  • Once your children are old enough and take part time jobs, introduce them to investing. Explain how dramatic compounding can be over time
