Why do some people achieve success and others don't? Why do some people have nicer homes, cars, are seen in the best places, eat in expensive restaurants and live the good life, while others seem destined to just about make ends meet. The measure of success is obviously an individual thing but there are four common threads that we all share. We measure success by: Our health When we are not healthy or have very little energy, we find it extremely hard if not downright impossible to achieve the results we want. There are lots of things we can do to improve our health and increase our energy levels. There is ample information and resources available to us, we just need to use them to improve our chance at leading a successful life. Our relationships No matter which way we look at it, having loving relationships are very important. Successful people are aware of this and plan their lives around their relationships, considering them central to their well being. Others who don't recognise the worth of their relationships can find themselves 'lonely at the top'. Our work We all share a need to have meaning and purpose in our work. We want to feel that we get up each morning to go to work or to our business and achieve something. It gives our life value when we feel we are making a contribution to society, to others and certainly ourselves. Our financial independence While 'how much is enough' is completely relative, we need to have enough money so that we dont continually worry about bills, homes, children and other responsibilities. Not having enough prevents us from living satisfactory and ultimately successful lives.

Are you ready for that job? You have been considering the advertised position, or thinking about the promotion. What next? Ask for the job Many people want to make the change, wish for it, feel they deserve it, but dont actually ask for it. What does 'ask for it' mean in your case? Perhaps you need to download the application form or speak to your line manager. Whichever the case may be, take the necessary step. When you ask for the job, you want to be clear in your communication. Show your interest in the position, let it be known that you plan to and are looking foward to making a strong positive contribution to the organisation. Your interest will come through in your application. Know your limits When you are invited to an interview, be clear about your ability to do the job and make that clear in your presentation. Ensure that the interviewer is in no doubt as to your capability. Address any concerns that they may have about you succeeding in the new role by proactively discussing any plans you have io increase your skill or knowledge base. Be clear on follow-up After an interview concludes don't make any assumptions. Ask what comes next, find out what the next step is and when the final decision will be made. Don't be afraid that you may seem pushy, you will actually show how passionate you are about the job.
